Wildlife Photography Workshops
Enjoy the beauty of our planet’s wild places and iconic wildlife while expanding your photography skills on one of our brand new and exciting Wildlife Photography Workshops at Rhulani Safaris.
Photographic Workshops are hosted by our team of professional wildlife photographers who are experienced experts in the field of nature guiding and wildlife photography, combining both elements to create an educational and fun learning experience. All of our team are published photographers, having their work exhibited on an international scale via books, newspaper articles, competitions such as BBC’s Natural History Museum Wildlife Photography Competition, Africa Geographic and South Africa’s leading coffee table and boutique-style book publishers, HPH Publishing.
Our Photo Workshops are specifically designed to accommodate photographers who prefer a private or small group tailored experience, with selected tours limited to between 1 and 3 people. This allows for a more personal experience, added flexibility and the possibility of extending the duration of your tour.
On all of Rhulani Safaris Photo Safaris, we include daily photographic workshops to help our guests to get the utmost out of their experience. These workshops include one-on-one and group tutoring on the basics of wildlife photography, artistic styles and techniques as well as post process editing (Lightroom Classic, Photoshop etc.). Having photographic workshops comes standard on photographic safaris and is one of the great benefits of these tours as opposed to a standard or traditional safari.
The only real disadvantage of the photo safari is that most trips are scheduled departures with little to no flexibility. At Rhulani Safaris we block book dates approximated 18 – 24 months in advance to ensure prime slots during the best seasons for wildlife photography. Thus, our photo workshops allow for more flexibility around the travel requirements and interest of our guests who may want to travel during a different season not usually favored by other photographers. An example of this is if you like going out in stormy weather (during the rainy season which we usually avoid with photo safaris) to capture the dramatic skies, emphasizing contextual photography – wildlife in their environment.
Our key focus is to create a comfortable, enjoyable and creative environment for both experienced and inexperienced photographers to challenge and expand your personal skill set. Whether it may be learning the basics of wildlife photography, camera modes or composition; or even experimenting with new techniques such as panning, night photography or flash systems (to name only a few), these workshops will focus on the particular element(s) chosen by you. A great deal of emphasis will be on one-on-one private tutoring during the daily workshops to provide you with the optimal learning experience from your photographic guide.
As with our photographic safaris, we have meticulously chosen a range of exciting locations that provide guests with the best experience according to your particular interests. With every tour we have a ‘focus species’ or ‘focus style’ of photography and are happy to assist you with booking a workshop to suit your interest.
For example, our MalaMala Photographic Workshop has a focus on the African large predators (lion, leopard, cheetah and painted dogs), our Tuli: Land of Giants Workshop is focused around utilizing unique styles of photography such as remote-trigger photography, night skies and other styles usually restricted elsewhere with a particular focus on leopard, hyena and aardvark, while our Giants Castle Workshop is focused on bird photography, to name a few.
Along with the practical photographic workshops we offer at various wild locations, we also offer annual ‘Photographic Expo’s’ in South Africa’s Hoedspruit (Korongo Conference Room) and Pretoria (Outdoorphoto Store) regions, giving people an opportunity to get involved and experience what wildlife photography and conservation is all about.
Photographic Expo’s give content creators the opportunity to exhibit their work while connecting with an audience of enthusiasts and professionals. There will be a selection of workshops available (varying per Expo) as well as the opportunity to meet and chat with some of the industry’s leading experts.
These photographic expo’s will be hosted by various acclaimed wildlife photographers, filmmakers, researchers and authors who dedicate their lives to their passion and art. More information about upcoming events can be found on our Africa Explorer Newsletter (Rhulani Safaris Homepage) or simply by checking up on our website for updates on the next expo.
All Photographic Workshops are subject to availability, and we recommend booking at least 6-8 months for availability. Bookings can be held provisionally for up to 7 days.
